The Theatre on the Hill

The Theatre on the Hill is a beautiful Black Box Theatre with flexible seating that can be configured into proscenium, three-quarter thrust, or theatre in the round. The theatre seats approximately 111 audience members (seating varies depending on the configuration). Currently, the theatre configuration is set for the proscenium configuration at 111 seats. A house lighting plot and sound plot comes with the rental. The cost of all changes to the house plot, including seating configuration, is charged to the rental group. The theatre has all the modern technical amenities including a computerized lighting and sound booth. The Theatre on the Hill can be rented for theatrical events throughout the year as scheduling permits. Rental of the space includes some equipment as well as box office staff.
Frequently Asked Questions for Scheduling Performances at HCFA
A blank black box stage area (unless scheduling during a different production), basic house lighting plot, scrim in the background, a projector for the scrim, side curtains, dressing room and performer restroom, and audience seating in proscenium set up for up to 111 seats. HCFA house managers are required for all performances (including invited dress or previews with audience members in attendance) and are charged at the staff rate in the rental packet. Box office services are available if you want tickets to be sold through our system, but does come with certain processing fees. If multi-weekends are scheduled you also get one- two weeks before the performance to rehearse/build/ work in the theatre space.
Our processing system Ovationtix has some built-in fees for tickets, which we must include in the ticket prices as listed for the full disclosure of ticket prices. When they are listed online, they spell out the full price, and taxes are not charged to the ticket prices set by the renter.
The box office fees are: $2.50 per ticket and 3% of the total credit card sales for the processing fees.
Box office staff is charged at the current CRPD staffing rate in the rental packet for all hours they are needed during a performance.
If a renter does not use our ticket service, they must provide a contact for ticket inquiries and on-site for the performances.
HCFA House Managers are required for audience safety and will be provided at the price listed in the rental packet per hour for all performances (anytime an audience will be present). House managers start 45 minutes before the show and stay for 30 minutes after the show is closed.
Lighting, set, sound, and other production assistance needs to be arranged in advance and will be charged at the current staff rate in the packet, and is subject to the availability of staff.
All set plots, equipment, and décor to be used and installed must be submitted digitally or in writing and approved by the technical staff prior to moving anything into the facility.
Some items may be not be compatible with our systems or not fit through our loading dock. These items will be looked at before approving any rentals.
Failure to follow the agreed-upon performance rules, rental guidelines, or to provide the required permits, licenses, or paperwork can result in the denial of the permit or cancellation of a production at our site. Emergency situations, including natural disasters, may also result in the building's closure and evacuations.
